Keystone has something for everyone!  It is conveniently located just about an hour from Denver via I-70 and the Eisenhower Tunnel or take the scenic route over the Continental Divide via Loveland Pass.  Once you reach Keystone, leave your car and take advantage of the Summit Stage and other Keystone transit systems or walk through River Run Village for all your shopping and dining needs!

While Keystone has a great location and lots of activities to offer, it does not have the historic mountain town look of Breckenridge or Frisco.  Keystone Ski Area recently did a huge facelift complete with an  upgraded base area, brand new gondola, and plenty of luxury condominiums and resort properties to choose from.  While the village itself doesn’t have the old town look, there are still many old mining areas surrounding Keystone such as Montezuma, Peru Creek, and Sts. John, all of which are great destinations to hike and explore!

Whether it’s dumping snow or 70 degrees and sunny, Keystone provides first class lodging and gourmet dining experiences for all of its guests.  Keystone’s close proximity to Denver and variety of activities make it a year round destination.  Many visitors stay in one of Keystone’s two villages while others stay in real estate in the nearby towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, or Frisco.

It’s obvious why people come to Keystone in the winter – to ski!  Keystone Ski Resort was founded by Max and Edna Dercum in 1970.  Their idea of fun was skiing with family and friends in a beautiful setting like Summit County, Colorado.  With all of the activities and events both on and off the mountain, Keystone is still known as a great family mountain where people can gather and enjoy all the Rocky Mountains have to offer.

While Keystone is a terrific place for families, it definitely does not lack in challenging terrain.  The ski resort is spread over seven miles of the Snake River and includes three mountains, two gondolas, and two mountain villages.  From difficult bump runs to glade skiing on North Peak to Snowcat skiing in the Outback, Keystone has a challenge for everyone!  Speaking of challenging, Keystone’s own A51 Terrain Park was ranked in Transworld Snowboarding’s Top Ten Terrain Parks and took first place in all of Colorado.  And for those that still can’t get enough, the River Run area offers night skiing too!

Somehow you ended up in Keystone but don’t ski or ride?  No worries.  Keystone has an outdoor ice skating rink located in the Mountain House base area, which is open all day and into the night.  Keystone also has a wonderful Nordic center with miles of trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.  In the evening, sleigh rides are available complete with an elegant dinner.  For a unique experience, take the gondola to the top of the mountain and endulge at the fondue restaurant or dine on duck, elk or lamb chop at the Alpenglow Stube.

Summertime in Keystone means world-class golf courses, horseback riding and lots of biking, both up and down the mountain.  After a morning packed with activities, relax and treat yourself to a massage or facial in one of Keystone’s luxurious day spas.  In the afternoons and evenings, summer visitors love to stroll throughout the village, stopping in boutiques and bars, sipping drinks on restaurant patios, just taking in the mountain resort.

Summer and winter are both great seasons to spend at Keystone among family and friends.  Keystone is the perfect place to enjoy all the Colorado Rocky Mountains have to offer in a top notch resort setting!
